When to Plant Dahlias in South Africa
Dahlias are warm-season plants. In most parts of South Africa, plant dahlia tubers in spring after the risk of frost has passed. This is usually from late August to October in the Western Cape and September to November in colder inland areas.

Are Dahlias Good Cut Flowers?
Yes. Dahlias are excellent cut flowers and produce more blooms when picked regularly. Cut flowers early in the morning when the blooms are fully open, then place stems into clean, cool water. Vase life is usually around 4–7 days, depending on the variety and conditions.

Dahlia Bulbs or Dahlia Tubers?
Many gardeners search for “dahlia bulbs”, but dahlias actually grow from tubers. On our website, we may use both terms so customers can find the products easily, but the planting material supplied is a dahlia tuber.
