How it works

The cold-frame uses the classic greenhouse effect: sunlight passes through the clear polyethylene cover, warming the air and potting mix inside. At night the reinforced PE skin slows heat loss, keeping temperatures 3–7 °C higher than outside—just enough to keep Lisianthus actively growing through Cape winter lows. Integrated zip vents let you control humidity; unzip half-way on mild days to release excess moisture and prevent diseases such as botrytis. Shelves are spaced to maximise airflow, so warm air rises through the tiers and seedlings root evenly.
