How to plant Gladiolus bulbs
Plant the corms in a sunny position from September to December. Choose fertile, well-draining soil and enrich it with compost before planting. Place each corm with the pointed side facing upward, approximately 8–10 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart.
Water thoroughly after planting and maintain even moisture while the plants are actively growing. Avoid permanently waterlogged soil. In exposed or windy areas, the taller flower stems may benefit from staking or support.
Flowering and garden care
Gladioli generally begin flowering approximately 10–12 weeks after planting, depending on local temperatures and growing conditions. For a longer display, plant smaller batches every two to three weeks during the planting season.
For cut flowers, harvest when the lowest buds begin to show colour. Leave several healthy leaves on the plant so the corm can store energy for the following season.
