🌱 How to Grow:

Sowing Time (South Africa):
Spring to early summer (September–December)
Sow directly in beds once the soil has warmed, or start in trays and transplant with care.

Germination:
7–10 days at 18–25°C
Sow 1 cm deep and keep soil evenly moist.
Avoid letting the seedbed dry out during germination.

Transplanting:
Transplant when seedlings are 10–15 cm tall.
Space 15–30 cm apart depending on how thick you want the stems.
Handle gently — sunflowers don’t like root disturbance.

Full sun — 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal.
The more sun, the stronger the stems and the bigger the blooms!

Fertile, well-draining soil with compost added.
pH: Neutral to slightly alkaline (6.0–7.5)
Avoid soggy or very acidic conditions.

Moderate watering — deep soak 1–2 times weekly.
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out before watering again.

Blooms about 55–65 days after sowing.
Expect a flush of flowers mid- to late summer.
