‘Snow White’ is a beautifully balanced bigleaf (mophead) hydrangea known for its abundant, pure white flowerheads that gradually soften to a delicate greenish or blush tint as they mature. Compact and symmetrical, it forms a lush mound of glossy green foliage and large, rounded blooms that bring a refined freshness to shaded gardens and patios. Excellent for cutting and ideal for brightening semi-shaded borders or large pots.
Plant Care
Sun: Partial shade (best: morning sun / afternoon shade). Protect from intense midday sun and hot, drying winds.
Soil: Moist, fertile, well-drained. Enrich sandy or light soils with compost, coco peat, or well-rotted organic matter.
Water: Moderate to regular — keep soil evenly moist; do not allow to dry out completely, especially in containers.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced feed in spring; optional light feed again in midsummer for strong repeat blooms.
Pruning: Light pruning only. Remove old flowerheads and any weak or dead stems after flowering; avoid hard pruning (blooms on old wood).
Top tip: For the purest white blooms, grow in neutral to slightly acidic soil and avoid aluminium-based “blueing” additives.
